Wimbledon Tips & Preview – Oscar Otte V Carlos Alcaraz

WILL EVANS’ daily preview serves up Wimbledon tips for a third-round clash between seeded players Oscar Otte and Carlos Alcaraz.

00:30 (AEST), Sat 2nd Jul @ All England Club, Wimbledon

History: First meeting

Final Thoughts: Late-blooming German Oscar Otte is appearing in just his eighth grand slam at 28 years of age and is into the third round at Wimbledon for the first time.

After a fourth-round run at the US Open last year and some consistent results in 2022, Otte broke into the ATP’s top 40 is seeded 32nd for this major. He is in great touch during this grass-court swing, reaching the semis of the Stuttgart Open after beating Denis Shapovalov (and then losing in two tie-breaks to big gun Matteo Berrettini) and the semis of the Halle Open, where he rolled Karen Khachanov before going down to Daniil Medvedev.

Otte’s hot hand has continued at Wimbledon, dropping just four games in a first-round demolition of compatriot Peter Gojowczyk. He eased into the third round after Chris Harrison succumbed to injury in the first set.

Nineteen-year-old sensation Carlos Alcaraz is playing in just his seventh slam event, aiming to improve on his quarter-final run as second favourite for the French Open title.

The clay specialist, seeded fifth at Wimbledon, took a break after Roland Garros and battled through the first round – twice coming from a set down to outlast Jan-Lennard Struff in a marathon five-setter.

Alcaraz looked more comfortable in a 6-4 7-6 6-3 win over Talln Griekspoor in the second round, dropping just one game on serve.

Otte is a genuine chance here as a $3.35 underdog, brimming with confidence from some big wins on grass this month. But Alcaraz’s explosive talent and big serve started to shine through against Greikspoor and he should have too many tricks for Otte.

Tip: Alcaraz Win and Both Players To Win a Set @ $2.20
