NFL Futures – 2022 Season Preview

The NFL season is almost upon us and in a league that throws up surprises every year, we’re looking for value in the futures markets.

Super Bowl Odds

The Super Bowl LVI winning LA Rams are on the fourth line of betting at $13 while the team the Cincinnati Bengals, the defeated team, is way out at $21 to go one better this season.

Instead, the Buffalo Bills are $7 favourites. They lost in a heartbreaker to the Kansas City Chiefs last season who are two spots further down at $11. Tom Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers sit between them at $8 heading into Week 1.

NRL Super Bowl Odds

TEAM PRICE
Buffalo Bills $7
Tampa Bay Buccaneers $8
Kansas City Chiefs $11
Los Angeles Rams $12
Green Bay Packers $13
Los Angeles Chargers $15
San Franciso 49ers $17
Denver Broncos $17
Philadelphia Eagles $20
Dallas Cowboys $21
Baltimore Ravens $21
Cincinnati Bengals $21
Indianapolis Colts $21
Arizona Cardinals $26
Cleveland Browns $26
Tennessee Titans $34

The Baltimore Ravens deserve consideration at $21. They were Super Bowl favourites following an 8-3 start to the last NFL season. An injury to Lamar Jackson ended all hopes of going the distance but if he – along with a number of other players returning to full health – can hit the ground running, the Ravens will put themselves in the frame early.

The Philadelphia Eagles will attract attention before Week 1, too. They’ve added stacks of talent, project to play well on both sides of the ball, have what is considered the easiest schedule in the NFL in front of them at this stage, and Jalen Hurts could be anything. They’re out at $20, but that won’t last long if they start the season with a few W’s.

Most Valuable Player Award

Josh Allen is entering his 5th NFL season and is the $8.25 favourite to win the 2022-23 Most Valuable Player award. Having thrown for over 4,400 yards and 36 touchdowns while picking up 763 yards and six touchdowns on the ground he comes into this one as one of the most dangerous offensive players in the league.

Patrick Mahomes is right there with him at $9. An uncharacteristic start to last season put him on the back foot, but provided Mahomes is back to his best for Week 1 and beyond, he will be part of the MVP conversation all season. Naturally, Tom Brady is part of it already, also at $9.

Justin Herbert is coming into this campaign as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL having thrown for 5,014 yards last season. It feels as though he’s only just getting started and has another significant leap in him. He will put up the numbers, his LA Chargers will win the games, and he will be discussed as a possible MVP all season. He opens Week 1 at $9.50.

Aaron Rodgers is gunning for his third consecutive NFL MVP award. His $11.50 appeals, but given the narrative nature of the award, he will have to overcome voter fatigue if he’s to win it this season.

A healthy and motivated Lamar Jackon is worth a look at $21. He’s betting on himself and playing for a bigger contract and showed he deserved one before going down last season. If he can stay on the field and the Ravens start this season like they did the last, he will be among the favourites soon enough.

NFL Passing, Receiving & Rushing Yards Leaders

Justin Herbert’s 9,350 passing yards, 839 completions and 69 passing touchdowns are all NFL records through the first two seasons of an NFL career. As a result, he’s the favourite to finish the season with the most passing yards at $6. Matthew Stafford, Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady are all at $8.50; Derek Carr and Joe Burrow are close behind at $8.75; Dak Prescott and Josh Allen are further back at $11.50.

Following his breakout campaign with the Indianapolis Colts, Jonathan Tayor is the $5.30 favourite to finish the NFL regular season with the most rushing yards. He led the league in rushing yards (1,811), carries (332), rushing touchdowns (18) and rushing yards per game (106.5) last season and is expected to do so again in this one. Derrick Henry has won the award twice already and probably would have won a third if not for his injury last season. He’s at $7.50 to finish on top this time around. With Nick Chubb at $10, Dalvin Cook at $10.50 and Joe Mixon at $15, Elijah Mitchell, Najee Harris, Javonte Williams and Christian McCaffrey round out the list of favourites at $19.

Justin Jefferson ($8.75) and Cooper Kupp ($9.50) are expected to battle it out to finish with the most receiving yards. Jefferson played out a stellar second season in the NFL last year but Kupp had his number throughout. Kupp led the league in receptions (145), total receiving yards (1,947) receiving touchdowns (16) to finish up with the award. Ja’Marr Chase demands consideration at $12 while Davante Adams, Stefon Diggs and Ceedee Lamb are next at $13.
