The daily preview it to the rim with NBA tips for the second clash between Western Conference heavyweights Utah Jazz and Phoenix Suns in three days.
14:00 (AEDT), Thu 26th Jan @ Vivint Arena, Salt Lake City
History: Played 205: Suns 105 V Jazz 100
Last meeting: January 24, 2022: Suns 115 d Jazz 109 at Footprint Center
Final Thoughts: It’s another top-four Western Conference showdown – but the combatants are sporting vastly different formlines. The NBA-leading, 37-9 Phoenix Suns have won 10 of their last 11. The 30-18 Utah Jazz have lost eight of their last 10.
The teams opened their season series in Phoenix earlier this week, with the Suns getting up 115-109 over the depleted Jazz. Devin Booker (33 pts, 7 reb) top-scored while the ageless (27 pts, 9 reb, 14 ast) stole the show with a stellar performance.
The Jazz were missing Rudy Gobert and Bojan Bogdanovic – injured in the previous day’s loss to the Warriors – while Donovan Mitchell’s absence stretched to four games. Gobert and Mitchell will not be back for this clash.
The Suns, though, are also dealing with a heavy injury toll. Big men JaVale McGee and Deandre Ayton, along with Jae Crowder and Cameron Payne, all occupy a crowded Phoenix casualty ward. Fortunately for the Suns, back-up big man Bismack Biyombo has been in great touch and Cameron Johnson has relished his opportunities in the starting line-up.
The Jazz are 15-9 at home this season – but they are only 8-16 ATS and have dropped three of their last four at Vivint Arena. The Suns are 18-4 on the road (14-8 ATS), winning their last seven away.
The absence of Gobert and Mitchell makes this a very tough ask for the hosts. The Suns are not exactly full strength but have enough marquee players on deck to win their eighth straight and cover.
Best Bet: Handicap – Suns -4.5 @ $1.90
