Form analyst, RIC CHAPMAN, previews today’s Hawkesbury meetings, with horse racing tips and analysis for 3 races. Good luck, punters!
Got to love a Gai and Adrian trained horse resuming from a spell. Especially when it has trialled well. MATLOCK is that horse here. Has raced twice placing in the bush then fading late when 6th at Canterbury. Has matured up and most significantly a lot of money has flooded in for him overnight. Drawn perfectly to ping and lead these. Brand newcomer TAMBOURINE MAN ploughed through the mud to run a strong last 200m to win a trial recently. Significantly, he was ridden that morning by Jean Van Overmeire who has chosen to ride Matlock in this.
Interesting race. I’m banking on a hunch here in finding POKERJACK. He seems to have taken a while to become a racehorse but I think he has arrived. Just prior to a spell he came from a mile back over 920m in the bush to run 2nd. Behind him that day was a horse who has gone on to win 2 races. He was spelled and last start, when resuming, he was in a tougher race than this at Kembla and came home hard over 1000m in the mud to grab 2nd again. That run suggested to me that he knows what to do, and with the claim here under set weights, he really looks nicely placed. Big chance.
When this mare POSEIDON JEWEL fronted up to race last start it was over 1400m in May on a wet track here at Hawkesbury. She carried 57kg that day and led all the way to win by nearly 2 lengths. She gets exactly the same conditions here – although that was a maiden and this is a few lengths harder. To counter that, she has a better draw and drops 2kg. A mare in form. That’ll do me.
