Horse Racing Tips & Previews – Saturday 6th August

Form analyst, SCOTT MCDONELL, previews Saturday’s meetings, with horse racing tips and analysis for the five best bets of the day. Good luck, punters!

Really liked the way KING OF SPARTA sprinted to win the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes last start. He will be at his prime third-up and expect Mark Zahra will get some nice cover from the barrier draw and he will have last crack at these.

He has plenty of upside and the Snowden camp have been patient with him. He can go on and win better races than this and happy to put him on top.

Tip: KING OF SPARTA

The big Flemington track will suit BERKELEY SQUARE. He won with something in hand at Geelong on debut before having a break. Was in the market first-up from spell but had to chase home the smart Boogie Dancer at Caulfield.

He will strip much fitter from that outing and with the in-form Craig Williams on top from barrier 3 he should get a crack at them over last 200m and this winnable race for him.

Tip: BERKELEY SQUARE

Looking for some value in Queensland and decided to have something each way on the enigmatic EXCELMAN. He has a solid first-up record (5:2-0-1) and produced a big finish to win the Grey’s race at Flemington during the spring when fresh last prep.

The Richard Laming trained gelding does not win out of turn but this looks a nice race for him to return in and if there is any stable support would have something on him.

Tip: EXCELMAN

Been following GARIBALDI in all his starts this time in and last start placing suggests he is ready to win. Drawn little wide but has the advantage of apprentice claim and if he can get some cover early stages he will settle.

He was placed in Listed company fresh from spell then just got too far back in Group 3 company in the W.J.Healy Stakes at next start. Should have been right in the mix here last start after being held-up before the corner.

If apprentice can get him wide from the corner he will have last crack at these.

Tip: GARIBALDI

Thought the Best in the West was ETOMORP. He did a few things wrong in maiden company at Pinjarra Park last start but ended up demolishing a maiden field winning on raw ability.

Looking for him to taken a lot of race experience out of that win and with added confidence and natural fitness improvement he will measure up to city class and can start with a win in this.
