Form analyst, SCOTT MCDONELL, previews Saturday’s Caulfield meeting, with horse racing tips and analysis for all 9 races. Good luck, punters!
Track Condition: Good 4
Rail Position: True entire circuit
DESERT ICON should get a soft run out front and if Brett Prebble can get a breather before the corner he may steal this soon after straightening.
STEEL PRINCE comes into this ready third-up from spell. Not beaten all that far here first-up before flat run last start. He can bounce back in this.
MASERARTIE BAY started favourite at Yarra Valley last start and he led all the way. May not get it that easy in this but would not dismiss.
Tip: DESERT ICON
PLAYOFFS won last he was at Caulfield. Been placed in two runs since and this looks a winnable race for him. He goes on top.
AGNELLI has been racing in consistent form. Won at The Valley three starts back then been good in two runs since. Must include in major chances.
FIVE KINGDOM has been placed in Canberra Cup and Albury Cup respectively in last two starts. Consistent and would include in exotics again.
Always had an opinion of BLACKCOMB and although it took a longtime to get her maiden out of the way she may now finally live up to her potential and go on with it here.
WELSH LEGEND resumes from spell. Yet to be placed fresh but she was good in three runs last time in work and prepared to include her in each way chances.
Forget that OCEAN’S JEN went around at Hillside last start when never got clear run at any stage. Drawn to get perfect run in behind the speed and she will go close.
CANNONBALL jumped to the front and gave nothing else a chance winning his maiden at Geelong first-up. Will be better from the run and can get away with this.
WEE NESSY started favourite at Flemington on debut but she ran into a smart one and had to settle for second spot. Drawn touch wide but she can go one better.
SUNZOU has impressed in a couple of jumpouts. Beautifully bred colt and expect that he will show abundance of speed and be in this for a long way.
Going to have something each way on EMBELLER in this. Been racing in consistent form in better races in Sydney and from ideal barrier draw she should get her chance.
AMBOONE resumes from spell. He won his first couple of starts last time in work and he may find best when fresh. Would have liked him to have drawn a touch better.
SENSE OF HONOUR made good late ground when placed at Hillside first-up. Expect she will be better from that outing and can sneak a minor spot again.
GRAND POPE will get the perfect run from inside barrier. Flemington winner two starts back and if he can find that form will be in the mix again.
MYNUMEROUNO just keeps winning. Drove hard to win at The Valley fresh then went to Echuca and again proved too good for them. Can measure up to this.
Liked the way that FLYING EVELYN hit the line at Flemington first-up from spell. Will go back again from her wide gate and look for her to be running on hard last 200m.
NEW YORK BAY resumes from spell. Both her wins have come when fresh. Competitive in a couple of Listed class races before going for a break. Don’t leave her out.
ADELE AMOUR traveled into the race like the winner at Hillside first-up but she just peaked on run late. Will be much better from that outing and happy to have something each way.
ARKTIKA won her first two starts with something in hand then she was thrown in deep end in Group 2 company but pulled up with irregular heart rhythm. Looks smart and can win this.
BLISTERING showed nice turn off hoof and got the job done at Stony Creek last start. This touch harder but she strips fitter second-up and would not leave out.
Tip: ADELE AMOUR
HOSIER pulled up sore on the firmer track at Flemington last start and forget he started. Should get some give in ground here and he can bounce back.
ZARATITE resumes from spell. Comes to Victoria after racing in super form in Western Australia. Looked impressive winning recent Colac trial and expect he will be well supported.
AIN’TNODEELDUN was always going to find them a bit too slick over unsuitable distance fresh. Sure to strip fitter and from ideal barrier must consider.
ABLE WILLIE is going to need some luck from his awkward barrier draw but he has been racing consistently without winning and going to have something each way on him.
PAPERBOY finished the race to win here three starts back then has followed up with a couple of sound placings. He will be right in the mix.
OLD FLAME timed his run to perfection winning at Hillside at first Australian start. Finds a similar race and must include in winning chances.
Tip: ABLE WILLIE
