Horse Racing Tips – Monday 2nd May

Form analyst, RIC CHAPMAN, previews today’s Gunnedah meeting, with horse racing tips and analysis for 3 races. Good luck, punters!

Track: Soft 6

Lots of intrigue in this maiden race. Mainly because top bush trainer Brett Cavanough has two runners, the well-tried and recent multiple placegetter VELVET STAR who is in terrific form and has a great gate. He also has RIGHTEOUS FEELING, who resumes here after being beaten 7 lengths on debut. He carries 1kg more than his stablemate and just this morning had a replacement jockey. Not much there to recommend you back him – other than he should have finished 3 lengths closer on debut. He has trialled really well and more significantly, he has firmed from an opening quote of $19 to $6.50 for this. There is considerable stable confidence in him. I say quinella them both today.

This is an interesting contest. I’ve been following form for 40 years and still ask the universe this question: when is it time to give a horse a win? In this case it is for RUNNING BEAR. She has raced 9 times and put in every start, but her past 4 runs have all been in this grade and she has placed on all 4 of those occasions. Three of them as runner-up, latest when beaten a nose. Is drawn well in this, is very fit, is overdue for a win and will race on speed, probably sit 2nd. Should be right in the finish again today. Perhaps toss in ANSELMO for 2nd. he resumes here but has good fresh stats.

II like the look of ALL I WISH FOR in this. He’s only racing ed 4 times, and only the once this campaign, but it was a solid 4th making very impressive ground late in a slightly stronger race. Fitter now and gives the impression this grade and this long straight will suit.
