Horse Racing Tips – Group 1 Queensland Oaks

Form analyst, RIC CHAPMAN, looks at every runner in Saturday’s Group 1  Eagle Farm Queensland Oaks with horse racing tips for the first four. Read on to see how he maps on this race and assesses the race. Good luck, punters!

1. BARB RAIDER (11) 135×112021

T: Jerome Hunter /J: Craig Williams (56.5kg)

Top class filly who has for some time now been able to compete at the top level in her age group and compete with honours. Showed so much bravery to win a great lead-up to this last start. Is fit, handles the trip and class, and drawn to get a great run. Big show.

2. GYPSY GODDESS (22) 1111×1322

T: David Vandyke/ J: William Pike (56.5kg)

Brilliant form when the track is in good order. Has been one of the benchmark fillies of her age. Gets back but is honest, tries her heart out and runs home hard. This is her home Gr 1 and although drawn horridly, probably drops to last to find cover. Expect her to rattle home late.

3. GLINT OF HOPE (14) 23327×1231

T: Trent Busuttin & Nat Young/ J: Daniel Moor (56.5kg)

What a good, honest filly. Was ridden perfectly last start and got through to claim the Gr 1 Australasian Oaks. This is 200m further and that may tell late but there is no denying how tough and honest she is. If she finds cover early, which she should, she can be a major factor.

4. BISCAYNE BAY (12) 1x7833x856

T: Ciaron Maher & Dave Eustace / J: Mark Zahra  (56.5kg)

Is building towards a gun effort here. Was 3rd in the VRC Oaks over 2500m, and was a closing 5th in the ATC Oaks over 2400m. Looked solid when 3 lengths back of Barb Raider last start in the lead-up 2100m Gr 2 The Roses. Respect her.

5. MOKULUA (5) 91×8830367

T: Clarry Conners / J: Nash Rawiller (56.5kg)

Handy filly with talent but this is probably too far for her at this level.

6. HONEYCREEPER (20) 43×3321316

T: James Cummings / J: Hugh Bowman (56.5kg)

Interesting galloper. Not raced since a solid finishing 6th in the Gr 1 ATC Oaks over 2400m. Has trialled well enough. Draw means she has to drop out but is a Gr 3 winner over 2000m after being 13th for home and is an Oaks place getter. Respect her finishing power.

7. GIN MARTINI (10) x281139344

T: John Sargent / J: Robbie Dolan (56.5kg)

Looks a quality stayer in the making. Always seems to make her presence felt at this level and trainer is a master at Oaks level. Has strong claim.

8. FESTIVAL DANCER (19) 311113×487

T: Matthew Smith / J: Ben Thompson (56.5kg)

Very handy and is a bit of a dark horse here. Did win 4 straight and was placed in the Gr 2 Sandown Guineas over a mile before spell. Has taken a bit of time to find her best again but is fit now and trip suits.

9. DYNASTIES (15) 1x227x310

T:  Team Snowden/ J: James McDonald (56.5kg)

Too good over 1800m for Gypsy Goddess and Smirk on a heavy track in the Bracelet. But folded like a deck of cards last start in a Bm 78 which is hard to fathom. Place.

10. VERONA (21) 17544×516

T: Ciaron Maher & Dave Eustace/ J: – (56.5kg)

Not likely to run but if she does she has finishing power. Chance.

11. BELLE SAVOIR (17) 1×1422

T: Nick Ryan /J: Ryan Maloney (56.5kg)

Looks to be very progressive and hers was the biggest run in the big lead-up last start the 2100m Gr 2 Roses. She was beaten a lip by Barb Raider and came from midfield. Trip seems suitable and can handle the grade. I like her.

12. ARAVENE (6) 471×511

T: Caroline Jenkins / J: Brett Prebble (56.5kg)

Has talent. Has heaps of talent actually and in the mud at Rosehill last start just destroyed a BM 72 field. Gets up on speed and just keeps grinding away. Not raced at this level yet but everything says she is up to it and has drawn perfectly. Big danger.

13. Charity Spirit (23)

14. SMIRK (16) 71×2133

T: Chris Waller / J:  Tommy Berry (56.5kg)

Has ability and will win races, and at stakes level. Progressed from a low key BM 64 win to run placings in successive stakes races, latest when narrowly rolled by Barb Raider in the 2100m Roses. Bred to stay all day and looks suited here.

15. TERANGA (7) 1512

T: Steve O’Dea & Mat Hoysted / J: Kerrin McEvoy (56.5kg)

Smart filly but has been away from the races since her solid 2nd in the stakes race over 1640m at Doomben in April. So trip may test.

16. Le VILLI (2) 3115675

T: Kris Lees / J: Tim Clark (56.5kg)

Good, strong Kiwi filly who was 7th in the Gr 1 ATC Oaks before freshened and a solid finishing 5th to Barb Raider over 2100m last start. Can place.

17. ROSIE IMPACT (13) 47721×1545

T: Team Freedman / J: James Orman (56.5kg)

This is a nice handicap filly but she will have trouble at this Gr 1 level.

18. NOM DE PLUME (1) 13822519

T: Robbie Patterson / J: Craig Grylls  (56.5kg)

Kiwi filly with ability and is tough. Won at the Sunny Coast over 2150m on synthetic but steps up a fair bit in grade here.

19. CUPID’S KISS (8) 3452×33221

T: Cassy Stummer / J: Jim Byrne (56.5kg)

Bush trained filly living the dream by being in a Gr 1. Did win an 1800m at Inverell last start comfortably but this is 15 lengths harder.

20. NYOTA (9) 8211

T: John Sargent/ J:  – (56.5kg)

On pace restricted class stayer who is pretty tough and will stay but this grade will test.

21. PIONEER LASS (3) 2×34222

T: Matthew Smith / J: Kyle Wilson-Taylor (56.5kg)

This is a good staying filly but is still a maiden after 6 starts and will struggle here.
