Horse Racing Tips – Friday 4th March

Form analyst, RIC CHAPMAN, previews the race meeting this afternoon at Newcastle, with horse racing tips and analysis for 3 selected races. Good luck, punters!

Interesting race here. I must say though I like the look of SOUND OF CANNONS in this. He doesn’t mind it wet, he is 2nd up after a useful run in an unsuitable and much stronger race, and he can stay all day. Last campaign, about 4 runs back he wasn’t all that far away in a Gr 3 race behind Entente! If he brings his best form here he wins easily. Awkward draw to contend with and he may be a run short of his best but his class from past performances make him a stand out to me. Maybe toss in CIRCLING for the quinella bet.

Here’s a fascinating race. I do like a progressive type and this Capitalist 3YO named BIG SHORT will do me here. Should park up on the fence in about midfield all the way and all Hughie, who, by the way, should ride a treble today, has to do is get him into the clear. He was runner-up in a similar race last start at Gosford coming home from near last on the home turn which is a tough thing to do at that track. Longer straight here should be right up his alley. WOLFBURN has talent t this level and can bob up into 2nd place.  Quinella them.

Tip: BIG SHORT @ $4.20

The three scratchings have made the big race today a pretty even affair but I’m on CHAT. He is 2nd up from a spell and has the draw to settle about midfield, one off the fence. Once he turns for home, he should get a very clear passage and a good look at the leaders. Can fin fish hard when right and I suspect his first up 6th to Lost and Running was good enough to take him all the way here.
