Broncos v Bulldogs: NRL Round 7

The Broncos have some changes to their spine and welcome the return of Haas and Flegler in the middle. They’re certainly looking stronger than last week, though the big question is exactly what Walters has planned for the fullback role. Te Maire Martin has not played a lot of footy this year and so I think there is a chance someone like Selwyn Cobbo plays a lot of footy at the back.

The Bulldogs had not made many changes with the exception of Schoupp at centre… but with news COVID has ripped through their squad, they could be in trouble here. They have lost Burns, Naden and Averillo, with Okunbor, Kiraz and Schoupp all called into the starting team out wide. That’s a lot of upheaval to deal with out wide, with Farmworth and Staggs being two of the Broncos’ best attacking strike weapons in the opening rounds.

With Cory Paix in for Turpin and Gamble being given a chance to start at 6, I think Coach Walters is pulling all the right levers for this one. With experienced guys like Capewell, Reynolds and Oates to lead the team around the pack, I think the Broncos might be about to break back into the winner’s circle.

Down in class and at home, I think the Broncos win relatively comfortably at home against a Bulldogs team that has struggled enough with consistency and will be facing some defensive issues out wide. Members backed the Broncos at -4.5 earlier this week, which is a position I’m very happy to stick with.

Predicted score: Broncos v Bulldogs

Bulldogs 12
