WILL EVANS’ daily preview serves up Wimbledon tips as Aussie Ajla Tomljanovic looks to launch another impressive All England Club campaign against rising star Jil Teichmann.

22:00 (AEST), Tue 28th Jun @ All England Club, Wimbledon

History: First meeting

Final Thoughts: Ajla Tomljanovic achieved a career breakthrough at Wimbledon last year, reaching her maiden grand slam quarter-final. But she faces a gruelling first-up assignment this time around against 18th seed Jil Teichmann.

World No.44 Tomljanovic – Australia’s top-ranked female – beat Alize Cornet, Jelena Ostapenko and Emma Radacanu on her way to the last eight at the All England Club in 2021, before losing convincingly to eventual champ Ash Barty.

The 29-year-old has had a reasonable season without any massive highlights. She upset fifth seed Anett Kontaveit in the first round of the French Open, while her Wimbledon build-up included a quarter-final run at the Nottingham Open with wins over modest opposition and a second-round loss to Ostapenko at the Eastbourne International.

Swiss 24-year-old Teichmann is enjoying a career-best season, breaking into the top-25 for the first time and reaching the fourth round of a grand slam for the first time at the French Open at the end of a strong clay swing.

Teichmann has exited in the first round of her only two previous Wimbledon visits. Her only grass-court warm-ups since Roland Garros were first-round losses at the German Open (to Daria Gavrilova) and Eastbourne International (to Heather Dart).

Tomljanovic’s superior record on grass and reasonable recent form sees her installed as a $1.53 favourite. But Teichmann’s lofty WTA standing hasn’t come along by accident and if she can adjust her groundstrokes to suit the surface she is the value pick in this intriguing match-up.

Tip: Set Betting – Gavrilova 2-0 @ $2.10
