The Australasian Oaks is a 2000m Group 1 race for three-year-old fillies, held at Morphettville Racecourse. Total prizemoney is $500,000. The race is the feature on the first day of the Adelaide Racing Carnival.
Australasian Oaks: Alfie’s preview
Track There’s up to 20mm of rain forecast for Friday, so it’s hard to give the track an early rating. I’m working off a Good 4 – Soft 5 at the moment.
Speed The pace should be above average here. Ancient Girl and Barb Raider should lead, with Mamounia and Daisies just off the speed and My Whisper off midfield.

6 My Whisper [$3.70] is one that looks to have further progression building into the prep. Jamie Kah goes back on and she can sit off an above average tempo. She’s one of the main dangers.
3 Daisies [$9] was very disappointing last start in the Port Adelaide Guineas, but prior to that was in good form. She’s in with a chance if she can get back to her past figures.
7 Mac N Cheese [$10] would need to turn the tables on My Whisper from last start, and I can’t see her doing that.
10 Glint Of Hope [$10] will run out the distance, but may lack the class of some of the topliners in this.
14 So You See [$12] is making a big step up from a BM64 at Sale, but she has competed at Group 2 and Group 3 level before that. Not totally out of it.
8 Mamounia [$14] was good last start but will need to improve again. Kah goes off but Ollie gets on. The Godolphin camp will have her right to go.
13 Pretty Amazing [$18] failed last start at Group 1 level in the Vinery Stud. She would need to improve to win this.
The rest would surprise, I don’t really think they’re in it: 9 Fortunate Kiss [$21], 17 Bundle Of Fun [$18], 19 The Map [$81], 16 Morrissette [$51], 12 Ancient Girl [$31], 20 Blackcomb [$81], 18 Roots [$21], 11 Lady Chant [$41] and 15 Stray [$15]
Last year’s winner, Media Award, started at $61 and was $100+ on the exchange, so it can be a very open race. My Whisper is around her right price, and I have her on top. For some value, Barb Raider is definitely worth a small play at the price, especially if the pace up front is not as quick as expected and they can control the tempo.
