Final Thoughts: Golden State Warriors have given up some ground in their battle with Phoenix Suns for the top seed in the West. The 42-15 Warriors pieced together a nine-game winning streak before losing consecutive matches to the Jazz (111-85) and Knicks (116-114), despite a 35-point performance from Steph Curry in the latter.

But they bounced back with a 117-115 eclipse of the Lakers two days ago, courtesy of a breakout performance from Klay Thompson. The sharpshooter’s scored 16 of his season-high 33 points in the fourth quarter, while Curry (24 pts, 8 ast) produced a clutch lay-up in the final minute.

Jonathan Kuminga (18 pts, 9 reb) justified his starting spot over Otto Porter Jr with a solid contribution. The Warriors will be without Draymond Green until after the All-Star break.

The 28-30 Clippers continue to battle on in the face of gruelling injury toll. On top of the long-term absences of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, they have now lost recent arrival Norman Powell to a fractured foot less than a week after his first game for the Clippers.

The eighth-placed Clippers have been scraping together enough wins to stay comfortably in the play-in spots. They have not won more than two games straight since December 13 but have not lost more than three in a row during that period.

After a 112-105 loss in Dallas (their third defeat on the trot), the Clippers upset the Mavericks 99-97 two days later. Reggie Jackson, Marcus Morris and Terance Mann all scored 20-plus points, while Ivica Zubac (11 pts, 10 reb, 6 ast) had a long-overdue double-double.

The teams met twice during the first five weeks of the season with the Warriors winning both. Steph Curry went off for 45 points and 10 rebounds in a 115-113 Warriors win at home and stuffed the stats sheet in a 105-90 victory in L.A. (33 pts, 5 reb, 6 ast, 6 stl). Paul George led the scoring for the Clippers in both games with 59 points across the two losses.

The Clippers are 17-13 at Cryto.com Arena this season (13-17 ATS), winning four of their last five. The Warriors are 16-10 on the road (12-12-2), losing six of their last 10 away.

But with Thompson heating up, the deeper Warriors – equal favourites in NBA Championship betting – should have too many points in them for the plucky but depleted Clippers in this one.
