Form analyst, RIC CHAPMAN, previews Saturday’s Rosehill meeting, with horse racing tips and analysis for all 10 races. Good luck, punters!
Track Condition: Heavy 7
Rail Position: Out 2m entire
HIGH DESIRED resumed from a spell in the bush last start and sat on the speed when being too game late to win over 1300m. This is harder but does go well at Bmn 72 level. And boasts a very good 2nd up record.
LORD HERON should be ready and fit following two runs from a spell. Looks well placed and Hughie has been booked.
MAHAGONI is from England. He has good form there. With David Payne and on debut in Aussie after two useful trials. Will get back but watch him dash home.
INGRATIATING was one of the top 3 juveniles last year, in fact on this day was 2nd in the Golden Slipper, but his two runs back haven’t set the world on fire. Saying that he is 3rd up now so is fitter and is more than capable of just going bang over these.
MAZU is becoming one of the best for his age in the land. Has won past three and only a brave person would tip against him again.
SMIRNOVA is pretty handy and she did win three in a row last campaign. Is trained here and should be right in this.
This looks a strong race, and a fascinating race. NICKAJACK CAVE on paper looks to have the job ahead from the wide gate, 2nd up and being top weight. But if he fires up he can make a race of this. Has to be fitter now.
ZEYREK is pretty smart and showed that last start with a win in a similar race. Hits the line hard so trip to be his advantage. Fitter now too. Big danger.
LUNCIES is the one to beat. He needed the run last start but hit the line hard when 2nd to Zeyrek over 2000m. Meets him 1.5kg better and is much fitter over a trip he likes. Handles the mud too.
On her best form LE LUDE looks thrown in here. Her two starts this time up have been outstanding, her win last start exemplifies that. Should be super fit now. Runs on hard.
HARMONY ROSE is 2nd up and looks perfectly placed. Was 7th when resuming but plenty of people backed her so they should front up again here. Looks the one to beat and money has poured in for her.
OUR INTRIGUE is very smart on her day and weighted well here. resumes from spell but is on home track.
Tip: 1. HARMONY ROSE
This looks a walk in the park for the champ. VERRY ELLEEGANT parks up in 3rd then explodes away.
ANGEL OF TRUTH may hand up the early lead to ENTENTE but will get past him in the straight and then just has to hope the champ is having an off day. Which she rarely does when fit.
MONTEFILIA is brave and has a turn of foot late that could trouble the champ but is only 2nd up. Either way, does look the quinella bet.
Top two 3YOs in NSW resume hostilities here after CONVERGE caused the upset and beat ANAMOE home last start over a mile in the Gr 1 Randwick Guineas. That day it could be argued Tim Clark on the winner outrode, or at least, outthought Jay Mac on Anamoe. Anyway, there was only half a length between them at the end. The extra 400 should suit Anamoe as he was runner-up this trip at WFA last October in the Cox Plate. Great race.
PROFONDO needs to lift on his poor effort last start when resuming in the Gr 1 Australian Guineas. He drew wide, raced wide, looked distressed running anti-clockwise and just gave up late. Is a Gr 1 winner this trip and this way of going plus Hughie rides. Respect him.
Victorian stayer FORGOT YOU is smart and honest and runs home hard. Must be in your numbers.
MO’UNGA loves it 2nd up which he gets here after a slashing 2nd when resuming last start. Loves this trip, loves it wet and has beaten pretty much all his main rivals before. All that make him a very solid bet.
DALASAN is so in and out but he does tend to bob up at big odds and he might surprise here. On his best form, he is a massive threat. Is 2nd up after well-beaten 6th to Forbidden Love when resuming.
COLETTE is the star of this bunch and she is ready to win. Is 3rd up here and both her runs have been excellent. Loves it wet too and this is her pet trip.
FORBIDDEN LOVE is so fast on a wet track early that nothing can stay with her and she is so fit she just keeps fighting on. Going for 3 wins in a row here and easily won the Gr 1 Canterbury Stakes last start.
What a great contest. Gary Portelli holds the whip hand this year as he saddles two runners with huge chances. He loves SEJARDAN, his colt who has raced 4 times for 3 wins. He believes he is the best male juvenile, and probably the best horse he has ever saddled. And those three wins, particularly the last one, have been mightily impressive. But so has the form of Portelli’s filly FIREBURN, a tough little thing with a will-to-win that belongs only to the superstars. She has brilliantly won her past three leading into this and loves it wet. She will be flashing home if she gets a run. She’s drawn the fence and there may be traffic in the straight.
COOLANGATTA has been the star since she first raced. Winner of all three races to date including the rich Magic Millions, she is a brilliant animal and will be right in this finish too.
REVOLUTIONARY MISS was beaten a lip in the Gr 1 Blue Diamond. She travelled three-deep the whole way and should have won the race. Drawn wide here too but will get back and is a very powerful finisher.
Tough race to work out. IN THE CONGO is very fast and very strong. Drawn perfectly and resumes here. He has proven to be an absolute dab hand while fresh. Yet to be tested on a heavy but his soft track form is first class. Will run a blinder here.
AWAY GAME is just so tough and honest. She is in great touch right now too having twice chased home her superstar stablemate Marabi, latest when 2nd to her in the Gr 1 Oakleigh Plate. Is unbeaten on a heavy track too. Respect her.
ISOTOPE likewise is brilliant and has beaten Away Game very comfortably when they’ve met. Resumes here but is a star and is massively consistent. Will dash late at these.
SHELBY SIXTYSIX is the jack-in-the-box here. He has raced brilliantly on 7 of the past 8 weekends, has beaten Nature Strip home in the Challenge Stakes at level weights, and last start was totally dominant in the mud winning the Gr 3 McCarten from rival RULE OF LAW. Absolutely thriving right now and loves the mud.
STEINEM is better known over longer journeys but she is good first-up and resumes here. Gets back but can finish powerfully.
IT’S ME has failed to flatter in her two starts this time up but she is fitter now and this race and conditions suit her. May well improve sharply. Watch betting moves.
The English import SAMOOT was massively impressive in winning on her Aussie debut. If she has improved even more, she will be in this finish.
Tip: 1. IT’S ME
