Horse Racing Tips & Previews – Warrnambool | Tues 3rd May

Form student, SCOTT MCDONELL, previews Day One of the Warrnambool Carnival, with horse racing tips and analysis for all 10 races on the card. Good luck, punters!

Track Condition: Soft 6

Rail Position: True

PORTLAND JIMMY has looked impressive winning his last couple of hurdle trials and looks to be thriving over the obstacles. Could be the start of strong carnival for the Patrick Payne stable.

Who would have though a gelding by Golden Slipper winner Pierro would be going around in a 2 mile hurdle race but LORD PIERRO comes off 10 length hurdle trial win this track and looks right in this.

BEACHGOER was placed on the flat at Stawell last start then followed up with sound hurdle trial placing and expect him to give this a shake.

BEEFEATER comes into this third-up from spell and his two flat runs have been well below par. Relished the obstacles winning his trial here with ease and like him in this.

MIGHTY OASIS has not been beaten all that far in his last couple of flat runs. Won recent Cranbourne hurdle trial by 10 lengths and expect he will be well supported.

COUNT ZERO won on the flat here two starts back then should have finished closer in town last start. Not flattered in a couple of hurdle trials but flat form will take him a long way.

KILLOURNEY arguably should have won the Mount Gambier Cup two starts back before battling in town. Won hurdle trial and should be superior on the flat to these.

HEY HAPPY was given a good hit out when placed on the flat at Geelong last start then close behind Hush Writer in a trial. He will be in mix.

Brave punter to leave Steven Pateman out of the hurdles and must put HISTORIC in multiples. He has won over the bigger obstacles and recent flat run will have him race fit for this.

DAWN COUNTY resumes from a spell. He was placed in both his maiden starts last time in work. Drawn little awkwardly but Hugh Bowman comes to town and he can starts the carnival with a winner.

Expect Jamie Kah to ride plenty of winners and she starts the carnival with PONTEDERA. Lightly raced coming of a last start Oakbank placing. Drawn ideally and that could be a winning barrier.

BIRTHDAY SUIT is another first-up from a break. Placed in first couple at first prep before taking on Listed company at Caulfield. Back to maiden company ideal fresh.

BUBBLE PALACE made a big impression on debut at Ballarat when she bounced to the front and just kept running giving nothing else a chance. Expect her to cross from wide gate and she can win again.

DUSSE has looked impressive winning her last couple of jumpouts with ease at Cranbourne. This looks a target for her on debut and would not surprise to see her win.

OVER SHADY was up on the speed and fought the race out strongly at Caulfield last start. Placed in previous couple and she looks ready to break maiden status.

VANGUARD demolished them at Hamilton over the steeples last start. He has strong flat form to back it up and if he finds form from last start can win again.

VALAC made an impressive return to racing over the bigger jumps at Pakenham. The margin was small but that was only because rider eased him down. The old grey will be a favourite to punters.

Can never leave BIT OF A LAD out at a Warrnambool carnival. The Maher/Eustace camp looked to have him peaked again for this week and he will be competitive.

BOYSZEE has been racing in such consistent fashion this time in. Made it two win from four starts this time in when he got through the wet last start. Johnny Allen aboard and he can win again.

CADBURY CASTLE relished the heavy ground and despite doing plenty wrong he gave them a galloping lesson in maiden company at Geelong. May get wet ground again and he can measure up to this.

IRISH BUTTERFLY has been racing well but just finding it hard to win. He will find this a bit better than recent racing and would not leave him out of multiples.

ADELAIDE ACE has not won for a while but the way he finished off behind the smart Flash Aah at Bendigo first-up from spell suggests he may be in for a successful campaign.

HEART OF PUISSANCE only had the one start in the spring and just missed at The Valley. If forward enough his talent will take him a long way in this field.

BERMADEZ won at Flemington fresh then followed up with a close placing. Found Group 3 a bit beyond him last start. Gets back in right race here.

STRIPPED BACK was placed this track first-up from a break then went to Terang and won with something in hand. Third-up and he can win again.

STAR SPIRIT resumed in winning form at Pakenham last start when strong to the line. Will be better from the outing and looks winning chance.

ENERGY WITHIN sprinted quickly and won at Mornington when first-up last time in work. Drawn to get the ideal run in transit and would not leave here out.

Tough race to finish the program. Might have something on the local HOME RULE to send punters home on a high. Relished the heavy winning last start and if he gets those conditions will figure again.

NERONE looked strong at the end of his race winning at Mornington last start. Steps up a grade but he can go on with it here.

FINANCE CHOICE has been racing in good form this time in work. Beaten less than 3 lengths in similar race in town last start and with Damien Oliver aboard must respect.
