T: Kerry Parker / J: Nash Rawiller (59kg)
Is so honest and so consistent and so tough. Won three on the bounce last campaign, all y at stakes level. Resumed with a runaway win over 1400m then was again game when 4th to Verry Elleegant at Gr 1 level. Third up dashed home hard late after being wide when 2nd to Duais in the Gr 1 Australian Cup over 2000m at Flemington. Ran past Spanish Mission that afternoon.
T: Peter Moody / J: James McDonald (59kg)
Superstar in the making. Is taking a bit of time to adapt to the new Aussie training methods which is putting speed into his legs. Did settle off the speed before hitting line hard and 3rd, beaten a head in the Gr 3 Carlyon over 1600m. Then sent to the front in a fast run Gr 1 Australian Cup last start winding up 3rd to Duais but looked the winner with 200m to go. Better suited this trip. Is a Melbourne Cup place getter..
T: Murray Baker & Andrew Forsman/ J: Hugh Bowman (59kg)
Good stayer in form and comes here from NZ with a nice resume. Ran 5th in the Melbourne Cup last year and has placed in a Caulfield Cup. Not the keenest on a heavy track but did win the Gr 1 Thornton Mile in NZ recently first up. Place.
T: Joe Pride/ J: Sam Clipperton (59kg)
Interesting horse. No Gr 1 form to speak of but is very fit coming off a powerful win at Gr 3 level over 2000m last start. Absolutely swims in the mud and has won at this trip so must be considered.
T: Chris Waller/ J:Kerrin McEvoy (59kg)
Good strong in form stayer who is trained here. Won the Gr 3 Hotham Hcp last prep and was 5th in the Gr 1 Caulfield Cup this trip. Is 3rd up here and will be running on. Place.
T: Team Hawkes/ J: Willy Pike (59kg)
Top notch on his day if allowed to lead on his own and is super fit. Is a Gr 1 winner this trip and has also placed 4 other times at gr 1. Is 3rd up here and was terrific when 3rd last week to Montefilia in the Gr 1 Ranvet. Loves it heavy too.
T: Chris Waller/ J: Brenton Avdulla (59kg)
Smart stayer being readied for the Gr 1 Sydney Cup in two weeks. But is 3rd up here and on his home track. Great run when 4th last start and this trip suits more.
T: Ian Finn/ J: Reece Jones (59kg)
Is completely outclassed on paper but as we have seen with Shelby Sixty-six, the wet tracks can make a massive difference.
T: Chris Waller /J: Tommy Berry (58.5kg)
Interesting horse. Is up in grade here but has been showing the ability make this a race he can win. Is a big enigmatic but when he puts in he can really accelerate late. Is trained here.
T: Bjorn Baker /J: Rachel King (57kg)
Is pretty talented and absolutely excels at this journey. Is a Gr 1 horse too. Last start, near last to the bend in the Gr 1 Australian Cup and just didn’t run on but there were excuses. Loves this track and the mud is no issue either.
T: Ed Cummings / J: Josh Parr (56.5kg)
Very smart mare and has the talent to win another Gr 1 race here. Is 4th up into this and coming off a slashing win in the Gr 1 Australian Cup over 2000m. That race was run to suit but she gathered them up with authority and disposed of them contemptuously. May still be in that mood.
