Horse Racing Tips – Group 1 Oakleigh Plate

Form analyst, RIC CHAPMAN, looks at every runner in Saturday’s Group 1  Caulfield Oakleigh Plate with horse racing tips for the first four. Read on to see how he maps and assesses the race. Good luck, punters!

1. WILD RULER  (6) x1619x210x

T: Team Snowden /J: Mark Zahra (58kg)

Brilliant speedster already a Gr 1 winner and earner of $2.6million in prize money. Hard task here first-up with top weight but he is honest and his two trials have been immaculate, beating Nature Strip in one of them. Will run you an enormous race.

2. ZOUTORI (12) 7140x4240x

T: Mathew Ellerton / J: Damian Lane (58kg)

Strong sprinter on his day and resumes here. Has a lot of good first-up form but this is a particularly fast race this year and he could get run over.

3. JONKER  (3) 1x3x2x761x

T: Tony Gollen / J: Jim Byrne (57.5kg)

Ran quick time to beat Bella Nipotina and Ingratiating at Gr 1 level at his latest start. Goes well fresh and resumes here off a good trial. Bound to be in the firing line all the way.

4. BELLA NIPOTINA (10) 6x3121323x

T: Ciaran Maher & David Eustace/ J:  Jamie Kah (54kg)

This is such a strong and consistent mare. Always runs a great race and after winning a Gr 3 here, she ran a pair of Gr 1 placings before spell. Probably settles about 5th and if she gets cover will rattle home.

5. MARABI (2) 111×111

T: Ciaran maher & David Eustace / J: Ben Allen (54kg)

Deserves a crack at this following her impressive stats. Has raced 6 times and won them all. She has astonishing speed and is expected to lead these. Can run on fast or slow ground and did easily win a 1200m Gr 2 last start. Off this draw is expected to lead and boot away once they straighten up. May be soften up by Malkovich mid race. So will be her greatest test.

6. OXLEY ROAD (9) 114x2316x2

T: Peter Moody / J: Blaike McDougall (52.5kg)

Interesting galloper. Got home well for 2nd when resuming last start and may have been a bit unlucky. Has always been honest and although up to top shelf here at the weights he should be right in it.

7. AWAY GAME (5) x312286x23

T: Ciaran Maher & David Eustace / J: Linda Meech (52kg)

Wonderful mare who is so honest and has been at the top level for a few years now. Is super fit and is ready to fire up. Is 3rd up here. Meets the boomed Marabi 3.5kg better for failing to catch her by a length recently. Respect that form.

5. MALKOVICH (4) 2112x222x5

T: Bjorn Baker / J: Craig Newitt (52kg)

Is exceptionally fast and will make this unbeaten filly work for the win. Has drawn outside her. Probably eyeballs her all the way. Has a good record at this track too and while he will find it hard the last 100m, is a significant player because of his speed.

9. MINHAAJ (1) 39x164x11x

T: John O’Shea / J: Kerrin McEvoy (52kg)

Sydney trained mare who will test these. She is one who doesn’t have to lead. Won both her races this time up and is capable of a sub 33.5sec last sectional. So with this weight and off this draw she sits up on the fence in about 5th to the bend and will rattle a sabre at these late.

10. POLAND (8) 10x153x80x

T: Michael Moroney /J: Michael Poy (52kg)

Is simply not fast enough to trouble these speedy ones.

11. STREETCAR STRANGER  (13) 44110x52x1

T: David Jolly /J: Paul Gatt (52kg)

More than handy speedster who ran impressively when resuming last start here over 1000m to win in good time. But, is up in class here.

12. INGRATIATING (11) 53x12938x5

T: James Cummings / J: Craig Williams (50kg)

Top notch 2YO in his time but doesn’t seem to be the same horse now racing as a 3YO. Didn’t run a place here last start this trip when resuming in an easier race.

13. GENERAL BEAU (7) 115x25125x

T: Mathew Ellerton / J: Mat Cartwright (50kg)
