T: Chris Waller / J: Jamie Kah (58.5kg)
Held the title of best sprinter in the world after his astonishing efforts last year. Always rallies and finds first-up too. His nemesis’ Gytrash, and Eduardo for that matter, both front up here. If they catch him it will be in the last few strides. Just a superb athlete.
T: Joe Pride / J: Nash Rawiller (58.5kg)
He is a superstar, a wonderful sprinter, one of the very best ever and he has beaten Nature Strip a few times. Admittedly, Nature Strip has beaten this bloke too but significantly when Eduardo wins, it is in these shorter races. Won two trials recently, has raced at this track and he will be in this right to the line.
T: Team Hawkes / J: Jye McNeil (58.5kg)
Is an emerging superstar who should love this track. Has mixed it with the best of these many times and always gives them a start before flashing late. The 1000m may be 100m too short first up but he does have a great first-up record. Will be running on.
T: Gordon Richards & Damien Moyle/ J: Mark Zahra (58.5kg)
Is a bonafide superstar when resuming and has won this race before. May look passed his best as his past five starts haven’t yielded the returns of prior years but he has beaten Nature Strip so knows how too.
T: Cliff Brown / J: Damian Lane (58.5kg)
Interesting runner here. He is a top class sprinter who likes to settle early which should go well here as a few will just charge and lead. Can run on like a steam train when he’s on his game. Dark horse.
6. THE ASTROLOGIST (1) x5411313x3
T: Team Corstens / J: John Allen (58.5kg)
Very smart sprinter and he particularly loves this track. Has always shown outstanding form up to Gr 2 level. This is a step into the unknown and struggle against the cream here.
T: Team Corstens / J: Damien Oliver (56.5kg)
Outstanding mare who is always a bit of a threat. Mind you, she has raced at this track 6 times and never won. Chased home Nature Strip but was 3 lengths behind him before spell. Looks tested.
T: Chris Waller/ J: James McDonald (55.5kg)
Is the boom young horse on the rise. Thrashed his cohorts at his only run this track when winning the Gr 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes in very fast time. Interesting that Jay Mac is riding him instead of Nature Strip. Certainly has the breeding and the resume to be in this finish. Has never won at this trip though.
T: Mick Price & Mick Kent/ J: Brett Prebble (55.5kg)
Is exceptionally fast and is unbeaten in two runs at this track. With this light weight he will go forward and be in the firing line all the way. Sure to be in the finish.
