Horse Racing Tips – Group 1 Golden Slipper

Form analyst, RIC CHAPMAN, looks at every runner in Saturday’s Group 1  Rosehill Golden Slipper with horse racing tips for the first four. Read on to see how he maps on this very heavy track and assesses the race. Good luck, punters!

1. DAUMIER (8) 131

T: Team Freedman /J: Mark Zahra (56.5kg)

Raw-boned extremely talented colt who finished hard and then fought off the challenge of Revolutionary Miss to win the Gr 1 Blue Diamond Stakes. Drawn to receive a decent run and if he puts in like he did in Melbourne, he rates highly.

2. SEJARDAN (7) 11×31

T: Gary Portelli / J: Jason Collett (56.5kg)

Brilliant colt. Will probably use this good gate and kick up to be about 6th to the bend, then come home very hard. Gets into this with 3 wins and a 3rd from 4 starts and is the logical one they all have to beat because he can run home hard.

3. BEST OF BORDEAUX  (10) 11

T: Kacy Fogden/ J: Sam Clipperton (56.5kg)

In a year where there isn’t a great deal of pace this bloke rates highly because he is all speed. Two starts to date have been two wins and both have been exceptionally powerful front-running displays. Will get out and go again here and will be in front down the straight. Can he hang on is the question?

4. SHALATIN (5) 52×73

T: Joe Pride / J: Nash Rawiller  (56.5kg)

Still a maiden after 4 starts but is a very smart one who can find the line. Ran Sejardan to a neck in the Golden Gift and again chased that star colt home when a game 3rd in the Gr 2 Todman this trip last start. Fitter now but hard to see him beating Sejardan home. Still, can place.

5. JACQUINOT (11) 153

T: Mick Price and Michael Kent / J: Hughie Bowman (56.5kg)

Outstanding run last start when a flashing 3rd in a quickly run Gr 1 Blue Diamond. Made a dash from a mile back and looked the winner at the 200m, fading in last few bounds. Has been schooled this way and will be running on hard.

6. SEBONACK (15) 14

T: Team Hawkes / J: Willy Pike (56.5kg)

Interesting galloper. Looks very promising after debut win at Caulfield then ran on very hard when beaten a length into 4th in the recent Gr 1 Blue Diamond behind Daumier. Sure to get back from this draw and that may prove too much to overcome in this tougher race.

7. RISE OF THE MASSES (20) 1×321

T: Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott / J: Tim Clark (56.5kg)

This barrier is a killer for him. He will have to leave the gates at a hundred miles and hour and that will prove costly late. Has raced three times on a heavy for two wins and a 2nd, the latest a win last week in the Pago Pago. Will be on pace but may fold up last bit.

8. COOLANGATTA (14) 1x11x

T: Ciaran maher & David Eustace/ J: James McDonald (54.5kg)

Is brilliant and is unbeaten from 3 starts to date. Won the Magic Millions after a great ride and beat Russian Conquest home in doing so. Ran fast time that day. Not raced since which is a concern but has acceleration power. Has won in the wet too. Looms large.

T: Team Snowden / J: Kerrin McEvoy (54.5kg)

Brilliant filly. Sat wide and yet still kept coming when beaten a nostril, and unluckily beaten in the Gr 1 Blue Diamond last start. Was the best run in the race and she is all heart. So suited to this trip but has drawn very wide and probably sits back in the pack from the outset. Has a powerful finishing burst.

10. RUSSIAN CONQUEST (16) 112×4

T: Team Snowden / J: Tommy Berry (54.5kg)

Is very classy on top of the ground. Ran home hard and missed by a head in catching Coolangatta in the rich Magic Millions and gave notice as a classy animal. Then resumed from spell and seemed to get bogged down in the mud when missing a place behind Seven Veils in the Gr 2 Reisling. Bad draw and wet track are against her.

11. QUEEN OF THE BALL (3) 2×151

T: Team Freedman /J: Rachel King (54.5kg)

Is very fast and when left alone is near unbeatable. Thrashed Revolutionary Miss in the Widden Stakes over 1100m and led all way to win the Gr 3 Black Opal last week this trip. But, when she was taken on by Best Of Bordeaux in the Silver Slipper she folded up. He’s in this field too.

12. FIREBURN (2) 4111

T: Gary Portelli / J: Brenton Avdulla (54.5kg)

Is just a really good, honest try all day filly who can find the line and has done so on good and heavy ground. Comes into this as the second stringer of the Gary Portelli pair with top jock Jason Collett selecting the colt over this filly. But maybe he shouldn’t have. She has very impressive stats and if she gets out in the straight she has proven time again that she can charge late. Gets back but has finishing power and likes it wet too.

13. OJAI (12) 13×543

T: James Cummings / J: Chad Schofield (54.5kg)

Handy filly who can run on but this is above her pay grade.

14. SEVEN VEILS (19) 21

T: Mark Newnham / J:  Josh Parr  (54.5kg)

Looked awesome leading all the way to win a stakes race last start beating Ojai and Russian Conquest home and in the mud at that. Problem here is that she is a fast filly and has drawn very wide and on the outside of a couple of other very speedy types. Still, that win last start was impressive.

15. LADY LAGUNA (4) 11×23

T: Annabel Neasham / J: Linda Meech (54.5kg)

Needed the run when caught on the worst part of the track and a fading 3rd to Fireburn last start. Is third up now, drawn beautifully, can handle a wet track and will be right in this finish at huge odds.

16. SHE’S EXTREME (6) 421

T: Anthony Cummings / J: Brett Prebble (54.5kg)

Could not have been impressive last week in terms of how she accelerated to win in the wet and the time she ran compared to the boys. Seems to be on a massive improvement curve and has drawn perfectly. Big danger.

17. SWEET RIDE (9) 1512

T: Annabel Neasham/ J: Jean Van Overmeire (56.5kg)

Very fast and likes it wet. Probably will let the other speedsters go but is on the rise. After easily winning the Black Opal Preview, came to town and was a close and game 2nd to Rise of The Masses in the Pago Pago. This may test though.

18. MILLANE (1) 1

T: Peter Moody / J: – (56.5kg)

In what was just a massive performance last start he flashed home on debut to win a stakes race at Flemington p er 1000m. This may come too soon for him and probably doesn’t get a run but is pretty handy.
