Horse Racing Tips – Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes

Form analyst, RIC CHAPMAN, looks at every runner in Saturday’s Group 1 Randwick chipping Norton Stakes with horse racing tips for the first four. Read on to see how he maps and assesses the race. Good luck, punters!

1. THINK IT OVER (8) 4x613111x1

T: Kerry Parker /J: Nash Rawiller (59kg)

Has slowly but surely turned into a down home, professional superstar who toyed with a very similar field last start. Looking to back that up here and nothing suggests he will get beaten. Even likes it wet.

2. KOLDING (7) 2501x599x0

T: Chris Waller / J: Regan Bayliss (59kg)

Gee this is a good, tough racehorse. On his day. But his days have been few and far between over the past 18 months. Saying that, I suspect he will be better suited in this now a tad fitter and will be on speed for a long way. Expect a better showing.

3. TOP RANKED  (9) 6x13624x3x

T: Annabel Neasham / J: Hugh Bowman (59kg)

Class galloper, in fact looks the dark horse in this. Has carried a boom on him since his debut Aussie effort when 3rd in the $1million The Hunter of 1300m. Put out for a spell to acclimatise and has trialled really nicely twice in recent weeks. Is expected to run well. Has placed at Gr 1 level in England.

4. MOUNT POPPA (13) 1x211x088x

T: Team Hawkes / J: Willy Pike (59kg)

Filling up the numbers and should get thrashed.

5. ANGEL OF TRUTH (12) 6538x2500x

T: Team Hawkes / J: Jay Ford (59kg)

Will be huge odds but he does like it wet and does go well first-up. And can perform at this trip, also has won at Gr 1 level. Hmmm, might sneak a place.

6. STOCKMAN (11) 2311x0244x

T: Joe Pride/ J: Sam Clipperton (59kg)

Interesting galloper. Once he finds form he is a tough old boy who can run a decent mile. Up to Gr 1 level here though which is a worry. Looks tested.

7. MAXIMAL (1) 8x2242x6x0

T: John O’Shea / J: Brenton Avdulla (58.5kg)

Did absolutely nothing last start when resuming behind Think It Over. May be better placed sitting off the speed and coming home. Was near the pace when resuming. Has form this grade in England this trip.

8. VERRY ELLEEGANT (4) 12x21431x7

T: Chris Waller / J: James McDonald (57kg)

Champion and she loves it wet. Got bogged down and too far back when resuming last start and a plodding 7th to Think It Over. He was in the best part of the track while she was on the fence. Is a 10 times Gr 1 winner and loves this track and trip. Big chance to rebound.

9. COLETTE (3) 54x65118x2

T: James Cummings/ J: Tim Clark (57kg)

Superstar mare who also doesn’t mind it wet. When she sets her mind to it she can beat everyone. Rattled home when 2nd first-up to Think It Over last start and is better suited this trip. Expect her to be flying home late.

10. MONTEFILIA (5) 6345x3214x

T: David Payne / J: Jason Collett (57kg)

This is such a good mare. She is a multiple Gr 1 winner nd she runs well in the wet. She also is strong first-up and looked strong in a recent trial. Will make a charge at these at some stage and she should be in your numbers.

11. HUNGRY HEART (10) 11x84837x4

T: Chris Waller / J: Chad Scofield (57kg)

Smart mare who is also a multiple Gr 1 winner. Her efforts at gr 1 level have been extremely strong and the way she made ground when 4th to Think It Over last start while fresh was highly commendable. Big show.

12. SHE’S IDEEL  (6) 4x371970x0

T: Bjorn Baker / J: Rachel King (57kg)

Class galloper, getting ready for the Gr 1 Sydney Cup. This is not out of her range off on song but raced very dour when resuming and this could test.

13. DUAIS (2) 121x3610x9

T: Ed Cummings / J: Josh Parr (57kg)

Yet another Gr 1 winner who was making steady ground last start when 9th to Think It Over. Fitter now and she can make a race of it if sharp enough this time.

Tips: 1. VERRY ELLEEGANT,  2. Colette, 3. Think It Over, 4. Hungry Heart
