T: James Cummings /J: Damien Oliver (59kg)
Is back to his best and this looks a perfect race for him at this time of his career. Not quite wound up last start yet still powered on by to win the Gr 2 Peter Young Stakes over 1800m. Has not won at this trip but was a strong 2nd to Zaaki in the Gr 1 Mackinnon here this trip last year.
T: Kerry Parker / J: Nash Rawiller (59kg)
Is so honest and so consistent and so tough. Won three on the bounce last campaign, all over this journey at stakes level. Resumed with a runaway win over 1400m and last start was again game when 4th to Verry Elleegant at Gr 1 level. Third up here and drawn perfectly.
T: Peter Moody / J: James McDonald (59kg)
Superstar in the making. Is taking a bit of time to adapt to the new Aussie training methods which is putting speed into his legs. Did settle off the speed before hitting line hard and 3rd, beaten a head in the Gr 3 Carlyon over 1600m. That should set him up well for this.
T: Mitchell Freedman/ J: Tahlia Hope (59kg)
Good stayer in form and did runaway to win the 2400m Hobart Cup last month. Harder here and coming back in trip not ideal but is adaptable.
5. STEEL PRINCE (7) 03310x49x5
T: Team Freedman/ J: Jye McNeil (59kg)
Ran 9th in this race last year. Not far away when 5th in the Peter Young recently but this should test.
T: Gavin Bedggood / J:Dean Holland (59kg)
It would be a major surprise to see him win, but on his last start effort when a solid 4th in the Carlyon Cup, it was a bit of an eye-catching run. At his best, he can win, but has only raced 5 times in the last 2 years and not won any of them. Place.
T: Chris Waller / J: Kerrin McEvoy (59kg)
This bloke ties all the lead-up form together. He was a solid 5th in the Carlyon Cup after being on pace throughout then was run down late when 2nd in the Peter Young behind Cascadian. Goes well this trip.
T: Danny O’Brien/ J: Jamie Mott (59kg)
Top class multiple Gr 1 winning Kiwi now here full time under the care of Melbourne Cup winning trainer Danny O’Brien. And didn’t he run a race last start when resuming and beaten a lip with 60kg in the Carlyon Cup. Should be cherry-ripe for this and rates highly.
T: Team Freedman/ J: Mark Zahra (59kg)
Class galloper who may sneak under everyone’s guard here. Can run a very fast 2000m and last prep did win the Gr 2 Herbert Power over 2400m in fast time and was 7th in the Melbourne Cup. Resumed with a game effort after leading and 4th to Cascadian in the Gr 2 Peter Young. Is fitter now.
T: John O’Shea /J: Hugh Bowman (58.5kg)
Interesting horse. Is still eligible for a bush Cl 1 & Mdn Plate but has also run 4th in a Gr 1 at Royal Ascot. Beaten too far last start when last to Think It Over when resuming at Randwick. Later.
T: Bjorn Baker /J: Jamie Kah (57kg)
Is pretty talented and absolutely excels at this journey. Is a Gr 1 horse too. Last start, near last to the bend in the mud when flashing home for 2nd in the Gr 1 Chipping Norton over a mile behind Verry Elleegant and running past Think It Over. If she repeats that run, she wins this.
T: Ed Cummings / J: Josh Parr (57kg)
Pretty smart mare and has the talent to cause an upset here. Is 3rd up into this and coming off a useful 6th in the Gr 1 behind Verry Elleegant. Is a Gr 1 winner and will love this track.
