Horse racing Tips – Friday 22nd April

Form analyst, RIC CHAPMAN, previews today’s Canberra meeting, with horse racing tips and analysis for 3 races. Good luck, punters!

Track: Soft 7

I appreciate that this is a daunting ride for young 4kg claimer Anna Roper, what with having only had a handful herself to date, but gee she has been given an opportunity here. She pilots WASHINGTON TOWERS a stunning last start easy winner in a stronger race and he goes up just .5kg because of her claim. He has drawn perfectly in gate 2 and this is his home track. He is 2nd up and he boasts handy 2nd up stats. All that sounds compelling, but what is most exciting in the this field of 7, he has been sensationally backed to win this overnight. He may even start in the red but if you see black figures – get on. The consistent SEVENTH SEAL resumes here and can run 2nd. Quinella them.

Tip: WASHINGTON TOWERS

This is a fascinating contest. I suspect this ESSONNE might be more than handy. Did win impressively on debut here and now up in grade. Has been strongly supported overnight too. Drawn perfectly in gate 3 so sits just off the pace smoking her pipe then unleashes once they straighten. Carries .5kg less for today’s assignment.

A new trainer and a new venue to race at – that is what is facing TOUR OF DUTY this afternoon. Oh, and the fact he has 60.5kg and drew the car park in gate 18. BUT…he has been strongly supported to win this race overnight. Formerly with Michael Moroney in Melbourne, he won a maiden over 1732m at Sale, then failed at this level at Sandown. Since sold and now with James Ponsonby. Robbie Dolan, probably sings a merry tune to him as he finishes hard out wide. Pretty certain Robbie would not go to Canberra to ride if he didn’t have a very strong winning chance under him.
