Melbourne Racing Results: Trev’s Blackbookers

Race 1: Lighthouse – Has run well in both Australian runs, producing good figures, Looks to still be on the up and can improve again next start in a better class race over a similar trip.

Race 5: Way To Go Paula – Had to go back from the wide barrier and ran home in the sixth-quickest last 400m and fourth-quickest last 200m of the day. Ready for 1400m and a better draw where she can settle handier in the run.

Race 6: Marabi – Explosive performance running a good time. She was eased down late showing that she has more to give. Lightweight chance in the Oakleigh Plate maybe. Definitely a group class mare.

Race 8: Foxy Frida – Massive close from the back running quickest last 600m / 400m / 200m of the day. Ticked the 2000m box. Can win again at this trip, just needs to draw closer in so she can settle a little handier.

Melbourne Racing Results: Trev’s Blackbookers

Derby Day

Race 1: Fangirl – Impressive effort coming from the back off an even tempo. Ran the second quickest last 200m of the day. Looked to still be on the up. Will be hard to beat in any race she contests below G1 level.

Race 5: Steinem – Racing well but can’t seem to draw a barrier. Not sure where they go next, but keen to follow up to 2000m in the next couple of runs.

Cup Day

Race 5: Lackeen – Resumed on the driest surface that he has contested in Australia. Sprinted quickly last 200m. Can win again up to 1600m next start.

Oaks Day

Race 1: Parisian Dancer – Got back and wide before running on nicely in the straight. Ready for 2000m now in similar class.

Race 5: Espiona – Wow! Ran the sixth quickest last 600, fifth quickest 400 and third quickest last 200m of the day… and never out of second gear. Group 1 horse for sure.

Race 7: Brazen Song – Best of the on-pacers in a strongly-run 1600m. In career best form which is a real positive for mares. Hard to beat in a race around the Valley over the next few weeks where the inside is favoured.

Stakes Day

Race 7: Hi Stranger – Nice return off a short break. Looks ideal set-up for 1600m next start.  A race like the Kilmore Cup would be a nice set up.

Melbourne Racing Results: Trev’s Blackbookers

Race 4: Generation – Sat second off a hot pace, took over at the home turn and held on in a high rating race. Ran up to its potential. Will be a live chance in the G1 Coolmore on the quick back-up.

Race 4: Scissor Step – Ran well two runs ago before regressing last start. Went to a new level on Saturday when ridden cold. Was suited by the early tempo, powering home late. Prefer in anything less than G1.

Race 5: Maracana – Got back to last. Ran equal quickest last 200m of the day with the winner. Looks like she wants a big track and possibly further. There is an 1800m on Cup Day that would suit. Otherwise look for on a big track and up to 2000m.

Race 10: Flying Mascot – Suited by a solidly run race. Powered last 200m and looks to still be on the up. Look for in anything 1600 – 2000m next start. Any give in the track would be a bonus.

Melbourne Racing Results: Trev’s Blackbookers

Race 5: Gunstock – Sat midfield-ish off a strong tempo before running on strongly in the straight to win running away, Still looks to be on the up. The strong tempo looked a perfect lead-up with for the Derby.

Melbourne Racing Results: Trev’s Blackbookers

Race 3: Lombardo – Different horse since the blinkers went back on and a tongue-tie was added three runs ago. Crabbed a little around the corner then quickened nicely when balanced up. Might be an ideal straight horse for the Flemington carnival – can win a nice race.

Race 6: Nonconformist – Had a last crack at them in a solidly-run race to just miss. That run should bring him on nicely. Drops 7.5kgs going into the Caulfield Cup, is versatile to ride. Legitimate chance next week.

Race 8: Forgot You – Got a long way back from the wide barrier. Along with Artorious he ran the quickest last 200m of the race. Looks ready for the 2000m range. The Vase on Cox Plate Day looks ideal.

Race 8: Prix De Turn – Made some ground late from last when not suited. A moral in any provincial race.

Melbourne Racing Results: Trev’s Blackbookers

Race 3: Elusive Express – Was able to take up a more forward position in the run from a better draw. Strong through the line. Looks ideally suited out to 2000m and beyond.

Race 6: Mystic Journey – Ready now to step off her past few ratings where she has gotten too far back. Best closer in the race. Ready for 1600m, maybe the Tesio Stakes on Cox Plate Day into the Empire Rose on Derby Day.

Race 7: Incentivise – No peace early while being eyeballed for the first half of the race. Was able to quicken between the 600m and 200m off a solid pace. Last 200 was slow but was entitled to be… that run will bring him on. Will meet Young Werther better at the weights in the Caulfield Cup. Entitled to be the short-priced favourite in it.

Race 8: This was quickly run and a true staying test. I think plenty of winners will come out of this race. You can follow the first nine across the line going forward in this distance range: Grand Promenade, Tralee Rose, Master Of Wine, Selino, Pondus, Realm Of Flowers, The Good Fight, Mosh Music.

Melbourne Racing Results: Trev’s Blackbookers

Race 1: How Womantic – Went back from the barrier which looked strange, then ran the quickest last 800m of the day rattling home. Look for over 1100m to 1200m next start where she can settle on the pace.

Race 2: Sirileo Miss – Has come back in career best form and stepped up again off her impressive first-up rating. Rated well here in what was a fast-run race, and then she was still able to break the class benchmark for the last 600m and last 200m. The G3 1600m on the middle day of the Caulfield Carnival looks an ideal next race for her.

Melbourne Racing Results: Trev’s Blackbookers

Race 3: Elusive Express – Hit the line hard from the back, looks a nice staying type. Looks ideal horse for 2000m race for fillies on Caulfield Cup day. Looks an Oaks-type filly.

Race 6: Starelle – Returned with a terrific effort, savaging the line and running top ten splits for the last 600, 400 and 200 of the day.  Matron Stakes in Cup week (2000m) looks a nice target.

Race 7: Delphi – Hit the line well, recording the strongest last  200m of the race. Has the ability to settle forward in the run. Ready now for the 2400m range. Can win one of the lead-ups to the Cups in the distance range.

Race 8 – I’m Thunderstruck – Stating the obvious! Had to go back from the wide barrier before unleashing a huge close to just miss out. Second-quickest last 400 of the day. The Toorak on Guineas Day looks ideal on the way to the Golden Eagle. Still on the up.

Melbourne Racing Results: Trev’s Blackbookers

Race 1: Lunar Flame – Hit the line well in a solidly run race .Eligible for easier races, hard to beat at this trip range, especially if back in grade.

Race 3: Ranch Hand – Defied his odds. Was held up inside 300m when the favourite was going forward with momentum, then got clear late before powering strongly through the line. Won narrowly but was going away. Hard to beat in any sprint going around.

Race 8: Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes. This was a good race to review, plenty of winners will come out of this race.

Incentivise –  Passed first big test, goes to Turnbull at Flemington over 2000m which looks ideal. Was strong late here after leading. Looks the real deal.

Mo’unga – Hit the line hard, running the quickest last 200m of the day. 1600 – 2000m next start. Epsom in Sydney? Toorak?

Sir Dragonet – Returned with good closing sectionals. Ran quickest last 600 and last 400m of the day. Grows a leg in the wet. On target for the Cox Plate.

Keiai Nautique – Ran second-quickest last 200m of the day off a similar run first-up. Toorak horse, needs to draw a barrier to settle closer.

Colette – Also was good late, needs to draw a barrier to settle closer. Grows a leg in the wet.

Melbourne Racing Results: Trev’s Blackbookers

Race 1: Forgot You – Comes through a fast-run race. Couldn’t sprint when they quickened between 600m and 400, but strongest last 200m (seventh quickest of the day). Looks like a 2000m horse, perhaps a Derby type

Race 6: Zouzarella – Suited by genuine tempo before powering away in the last 200m. Looks ideally suited going to 1400m next start, and then 1600m  Apart from Argentia, who had no luck at all, she looks to have the rest covered going forward.

Race 9: Aussie Nugget – Terrific effort from the back, running 8th quickest last 200m of the day. Third-up, good track, 1600m – 1800m in restricted grade looks ideal.

Melbourne Racing Results: Trev’s Blackbookers

Race 3
Turaath Looked unimpressive narrowly winning, but did go out the quickest of 1400m runners to the 600m mark, and ran a quicker overall time than the Group 1 race and Ayrton’s race. It’s a moral if it gets to dictate in front somewhere.
Annavisto Terrific return carrying the penalty. Fast-run race will be a good benefit to her. Going well.

Race 5
Masked Crusader Pretty obvious, but super effort coming from last in the fastest splits of the day. Genuine G1 horse.

Race 9
King Magnus In career-best form. Can win one of these Open handicaps down in the weights soon.
Ayrton Stating the obvious, but he is a G1 horse in waiting. Terrific return off a short break. Rated near peak, so can improve again next time out.

Melbourne Racing Results: Trev’s Blackbookers

Race 9: Shot Of Irish – Terrific effort on pace where the leader ran six lengths quicker than the class par to the 600m mark. Lost ground for the 600-200 then was going as well as anything the last 200m. Needs 1600m with the cut in the track and a jockey change.

Race 8: Angel of Truth – Finished hard running third-quickest last 200m of the day. Look for 1600-2000m on a wet track (on which he grows a leg).

Melbourne Racing Results: Trev’s Blackbookers

Race 4: Turaath – Super on-pace effort. Went out slightly slower than Groundswell in the Open Hcp, then ran home 0.5 sec quicker last 600m. If it repeats that effort next start it wins anything less than a Group 1.

Race 9: Mankayan – Has the flashing red light. Returned from a spell with first run from overseas flashing home in 4th quickest last 200m of the day.

Race 9: Coolth – Returned nicely over 1600m. Looks ready for 2000m.

Race 6: So You Assume – Raced on the pace in a moderate tempo before sprinting quickly the last 400m. Ran the 3rd quickest last 400m and 200m of the day despite easing up late. Should be able to win an open mares race now over a similar trip.

Melbourne Racing Results: Trev’s Blackbookers

Race 3: He’s The Real Deal – Went out over 10 lengths quicker than the class par to the 600m and still was leading well into the straight. Looks a moral if he comes back in class in to a race where he can dictate in front.

Race 6: Platini – Resumed off a short break. Ran on well recording the 3rd/7th/4th best last 600/400200 of the day. Good second up, look for him to improve next start over 1400m – especially from a favourable draw.

Melbourne Racing Results: Trev’s Blackbookers

Race 5: The Big Easy – Ran on strongly from the back producing the 2nd / 2nd / 7th / 2nd quickest late splits of the day. Previous run was solid as well. Just needs to draw a barrier so can settle handier in the run. Look for over 1400m.

Melbourne Racing Results: Trev’s Blackbookers

Melbourne Racing Results: Trev’s Blackbookers

Melbourne Racing Results: Trev’s Blackbookers

Melbourne Racing Results: Trev’s Blackbookers

Race 3: Ayrton – Ran 0.7 quicker overall time quicker than the B78 horses. Was almost 9 lengths quicker than the class benchmark winning with its head on its chest. Outside a legitimate G1 race next start, it should win again easily.

Melbourne Racing Results: Trev’s Blackbookers

Melbourne Racing Results: Trev’s Blackbookers

It’s difficult to find a lot of blackbookers in Cup week, because for almost horses it’s their grand final… so they may well be headed stright to to paddock.

So Trev has put together those he’s picked out over the four days of the Flemington carnival…

Melbourne Cup Day

Race 8: Gold Fields – In career best form. Ridden back on, Cup day he was the best of the closer. Can win a 1600m -1800m race in the next few weeks. Can race on the pace.

Oaks Day

Race 1: Tralee Rose – Won nicely on Oaks Day over 1700m. Ready for 2000m next start, can improve again.

Race 2: Hang Man – Ran well behind Irish Flame third-up. Had no luck fourth-up last prep at 2000m, but has won fourth-up twice in his career. Should pop up in the next couple of weeks and run to his best.

Stakes Day

Race 2: Shelby Cobra – Impressive winner on the last day over 1400m. Jockey thought that would be his ceiling distance wise. Should appear again in the next couple of weeks.

Race 4: Right You Are – Hit the line well, looked very one-paced. 2000m looks ideal third up.

Race 9: Meteorite – Total forgive down the straight in the last race of the carnival. Never travelled well and always struggling to go straight. Back around a bend for him and can run to best.

Melbourne Racing Results: Trev’s Blackbookers

Track played well. Horses could win from anywhere, just needed to be at least one off the fence in the straight.

Race 7: Agreeable – Captain Obvious here, but she keeps hitting the line well. Looks to need 2000m+ and a better draw. The Wakeful looks a nice race for her, then the Oaks.

Race 8: Grandslam – Huge effort on the pace. He run 12 lengths + inside the class par for the first 1000m, and then kept fighting on well in the straight. Full brother to Caulfield Cup winner Jameka. Look toward 2000m Vase at Moonee Valley, then the Derby.

Race 9: Reykjavik – Absolutely flying. Good last start then held up in the straight. Had to go back to last from the barrier. Ran seco-d quickest last 200m of the day. Like to see him come back in class, at 1600m and from a better barrier. Hard to beat if he got a wet track over the spring – that would be a bonus.

Melbourne Racing Results: Trev’s Blackbookers

Race 6: Steel Prince – Sat wide off a quick tempo and kept coming in the straight. Not Cups standard, but can definitely feature in the lead-ups.

Race 9: Young Werther – Difficult to ride in the straight but hit the line well. Will improve again out to 2000m with winkers or blinkers on.

Melbourne Racing Results: Trev’s Blackbookers

Rain during the day, so times got a little slower as day went on. Riders avoided the inside section in the straight as the day went on.

Race 2: Power Scheme – Ran on nicely in the straight first-up, and produced peak figure second-up last prep. Look for a 1600m restricted race.

Race 3: Saracen Knight – Suited by the fast tempo, but was held up in the straight and stood the leaders a huge margin. Last 200m was only the 28th quickest of the day, but he was over 0.5 seconds quicker than any other runner in the race. Looks a progressive type.

Melbourne Racing Results: Trev’s Blackbookers

Race 8: Reykjavik – Hit the line hard late after having an interrupted run in the straight. Not sure he’s G1 class, but there are plenty of 1600m races coming up that should suit.

Race 8: Superstorm – Ran third in the All Star mile third-up from a spell in the autumn. Has had two runs back now. Ready to peak at 1600m next start. Good barrier would be a bonus.

Melbourne Racing Results: Trev’s Blackbookers

After forecasts of heavy rain, not much arrived and the track played well. I have it slightly better than the official rating – I think it was closer to a Good 3 for most of the day, slowing to a Good 4 late.

Race 3: Arcadia Queen – The obvious one. Hit the line well, look for at the mile next start.

Race 6: Adelaide Ace – Provided it gets a decent draw, it’ll be dangerous next start at 1600m – 1700m.

Melbourne Racing Results: Trev’s Blackbookers

Track raced between a Good 3 and Good 4. All winners were at least three-wide from the 400m to the post. Can forgive horses that raced without cover down the side with the northerly blowing.

Race 2: Windstorm – Given no hope when eased right back to near tail at the start. Ran fifth-quickest last 600m of the day and second-quickest last 200m. Look for senior rider back on next time and better draw.

Race 4: Nonconformist – Terrific return, went back from wide barrier and rattled home in 16th-best last 200m of the day, when only warming up late. Look for at 1600m – 1700m next start from a better draw. A race like the JRA Cup at The Valley at the end of September looks a good race for him.

Race 7: Flying Award – Another horse who went well back from the barriers. Better draw and up in trip and he can win some nice races.

Melbourne Racing Results: Trev’s Blackbookers

Track raced in the Soft 5 – Slow 6 range. Seven of nine winners were two lengths or closer to the lead at the 800m mark. All the winners were at least three-wide from the 400m to the finish.

Race 7: Age Of Chivalry – Returned well, producing a good figure. Generally steps of it’s first-up rating second-up. Looking for him in a 1400m race second-up.

Race 9: Showmanship – Was short odds and didn’t win by a lot, but the run had a lot of merit. Only two horses that won were further back than two lengths off the lead at the 800m  – Viridine in Race 7 who was three lengths off, and Showmanship who was 4.6 lengths off. Showmanship only got clear in the last 200m and was powering at the line. Ran the quickest last 200m of the day. Can win a good race, especially down in the weights. Want to follow.
